iRobot Mirra 530 Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

If the iRobot name looks familiar, then you’re probably already aware that the company manufactures the Roomba. As one of the biggest names in household robotics, iRobot now enters the world of robotic pool cleaners with the Mirra 530.

Similar to most other robot pool cleaners, the Mirra 530 is self-contained. This means you don’t need any other pumps or hoses with the robot. The motor can process up to 4000 gallons of water per hour, and its 2-micron filter helps eliminate harmful bacteria and contaminants in your pool.

iRobot’s first foray into the automated pool cleaning market isn’t perfect, but it is a solid option. It cleans well, is powerful, and is easy to maintain and use. It has the ability to climb stairs, and cleans from the floor of your pool, all the way up to the water line. If you’re looking for a robot pool cleaner that can clean all types of in-ground pools, the Mirra 530 might be for you.

Product Highlights

PVA Sponge Wheels

The wheels on the Mirra 530 consist of a material referred to by iRobot as PVA sponge. This material allows the robot to grip the pool surface, which gives it the traction it needs to move throughout the pool. With PVA sponge, the Mirra 530 can move up the pool walls and navigate around obstacles as needed. The improved grip comes in handy if your pool has a smooth surface like ceramic or vinyl.

Top-load canisters

With the Mirra 530’s top loading canisters, you aren’t forced to turn the robot upside down in order to clean out dirt and debris. The whole process is quick and easy. Simply lift the baskets, open the trap door, and let the debris fall out. That’s it.

Efficiently cleans

The Mirra 530 boasts iRobot’s iAdpat Nautiq Responsive cleaning technology. This technology gives the robot the ability to scan and the pool and determine how large it is. It also detects the shape of the pool and gathers specific measurements.

Based on the information it gathers, the Mirra 530 then decides which path is the best to take while cleaning the pool. This provides an efficient and quick clean, but also means that the robot doesn’t miss a spot. With each cleaning, the Mirra 530 learns more about your pool, which means every time it cleans it’s becoming more effective and efficient.

Gyro sensor

While the Mirra 530 doesn’t come with a swivel cable like most robot pool cleaners do, it does have its own method of preventing the cable from twisting and tangling. iRobot’s pool cleaner uses a gyro sensor which determines when the robot has turned in a specific direction. This sensor prevents the cable from becoming tangled or twisted.

Dual motors

The vast majority of robot pool cleaners use a single motor which moves the treads or wheels. At the same time, that single motor is also used to vacuum up water to be filtered. The Mirra 530, on the other hand, uses dual motors. It makes use of one motor to drive the wheels, providing the power the robot needs to navigate obstacles and climb walls.

The other motor runs the pump that works water through the filter system. This is how the Mirra 530 is able to achieve such a remarkably high flow rate. As a result, the robot distributes filtered water throughout the pool as it cleans, which helps aerate the pool and reduce heated areas on a hot day.

Highly active scrubbing brush

The iRobot Mirra 530’s scrubbing brush is made of tough PVC, which helps it target dirt and debris stucks on the walls and floor of your pool. Connected to the motor, the scrubbing brush rotates four times for each motor rotation, which means the brush is moving very quickly. This type of agitation frees up stubborn contaminates on your pool walls, floor, and stairs, giving you a thorough clean.

What Others Are Saying

While there are a fair amount of users who have reported no issues with their Mirra 350 and are quite happy with their purchase, it seems that the majority run into a few recurring problems with their robot pool cleaner. First, despite its Gyro sensor, a lot of users are reporting that the cord still gets tangled and twisted.

Second, the Mirra 350 gets stuck much easier than other robot pool cleaners. Instead of choosing wheels with treads, iRobot went with oversized wheels. As a result, the Mirra 350 gets hair and debris wrapped around its wheels and gets stuck easier than other robot pool cleaners.

Is the iRobot Mirra 530 Right For You?

On the home robotic front, few names are as recognizable as iRobot, and its Mirra 530 robot pool cleaner boasts many features that make it a good product. Its filtration rate of 70 gallons per minute, and its ability to determine the optimal path for cleaning your pool are great innovations for pool cleaners.

However, the vast majority of users have complained about the robot getting stuck or tangled in its own cord, which is reason for pause before running out and purchasing one. The iRobot Mirra 530 is energy efficient and thoroughly cleans your pool. It’s easy to setup and maintain, and offers plenty of features. If the issues others are seeing don’t bother you, then you might consider the Mirra 530 for your pool cleaning needs.
