Hayward Aquavac 500 Robotic Pool Cleaner Review
Hayward robotic pool cleaners have become synonymous with quality and power, and the Aquavac 500 is no exception. With its new artificial intelligence, ease of use, convenient caddy, and wide-range of features, the Aquavac 500 delivers on all fronts.
This pool cleaner offers its bi-fold system used for filtration, which includes a “clean-up” filter that helps eliminate heavy debris and dirt. The Aquavac 500 is ideal for pools that measure less than 40’, and comes with a 60’ Kevlar swivel cable which Hayward says will never tangle.

Dual traction cleaning system
The Aquavac 500 comes with a pair of scrubbing brushes that help to loosen debris, dirt, and other contaminants that reside in your pool. With its four wheels, the Aquavac 500 easily climbs walls and navigates its way around your pool, avoiding obstacles and obstructions, then resumes its current cleaning cycle.
When the Aquavac 500 senses that it may be coming up out of the water, an out-of-water sensor shuts off the motor to protect it. You’ll also notice a beach-entry sensor on the robot pool cleaner, which causes the device to reverse direction when it begins to climb out of the water.
Dual cleaning options
Whether you’re in a hurry to get in the pool, or it requires a deep, thorough clean, the Aquavac 500 has you covered. With its dual-mode technology, you can choose between two cleaning options. You can select a fast, 90-minute clean, or a deep clean, which cleans the waterline, walls, and floor, but takes three hours to complete.
Clean as often as you want
No matter how often (or rarely) you want to clean your pool, the Aquavac 500 has you covered. With its Integrated Recurring Timer, you can select the frequency with which your pool cleaner runs. You can choose a one-time clean or have the device clean every 24, 48, or 72 hours.
Quick and easy debris removal
Under the lid, you’ll find two large removable debris containers that house smaller filter elements. The lid on the Aquavac 500 pops open with the push of a button, which gives you access to the canisters from the top. You can easily remove both the containers and the filters from the main unit and wash them off with your house. Insert them back into the Aquavac 500, and it’s ready to start cleaning again.
Two-wheeled caddy cart included
The Aquavac 500 comes with its own two-wheeled caddy, which offers large hooks to hold the 60’ long cable. Securely placed on the caddy is the head unit of the robot, which provides it with the power it needs to clean your pool. Using your caddy allows for easily moving the Aquavac 500 when you’re putting it into storage or bringing it out for a cleaning.
When you’re ready to use your Aquavac 500, you won’t need any added hoses, pumps, or hookups. All you have to do is drop the robot into your pool and let it do its thing. Additionally, the Aquavac 500 runs separately from your pool’s filtration system, so you don’t have to worry about debris and dirt backwashing into your pool.

What Others Are Saying
Unfortunately, many uses have had poor experiences with the Aquavac 500. Many complain that the device often “turns turtle” during a cleaning cycle, which requires them to manually pull the robot out. Others say that the device often did not clean their entire pool, leaving dirt and debris throughout half the pool.
Those that have enjoyed using the Aquavac 500 say that the pool cleaner gets all the way up to the tile lines with no problems. They also state that they like how simple and easy to use the robot is, especially given the wide variety of features available with the Aquavac 500.
Good, but Not Great Robot Pool Cleaner
The Aquavac 500 is a solid pool cleaner. It’s not going to wow you with any impressive features or cutting-edge technologies, but it does everything you would want your robot clean to do. It is a nice, simple robot that is easy to use. You plug it in, drop it in the water, and let it go about its cleaning cycle. It’s nice to know it will clean the walls, floor, and waterline of your pool, scrubbing up dirt and debris as it goes.
However, it’s tendency to fall over on itself means it spends a fair amount of time trying to right itself, which is a waste of time and energy. Additionally, it does not come with a remote and only has the ability to clean at certain intervals. It’s difficult to recommend the Aquavac 500 since the reports of it turning over are fairly regular, but if you’re in the market for a solid robot pool cleaner, there are worse options available.
