The Triton Plus is an easy plug-and-play cleaner. There is no installation or pre-programming involved. Just plug it in, switch it on and leave it to do its thing. In the water, the inbuilt IntelliScan programming takes over and scans the dimensions of the pool as well as its filtration requirements to determine the most efficient way to proceed. Analysis done, it goes ahead and cleans the floors and walls up to the water line in the shortest time possible without compromising on the cleaning itself.
The surface of the pool does not impact its performance in any way. The Dolphin Triton Plus does a great job of all pool surfaces, from vinyl, tile and fiberglass to cement and pebble.
This robotic cleaner has two cleaning cycle modes. The one-hour quick clean mode is convenient for those times when your pool is not very dirty and you really want is a quick clean so you can use it without having to wait two and half hours to use it. The 2.5 hour mode will do a thorough clean up job, which is necessary if you have not used the pool in a while.
On the downside however, its cleaning capacity is limited because of the relatively small surface area of the filter. Leaves, acorns and other large-sized particles tend to clog the filter. If you see these in your pool, you know you will have to either take these out manually or you will have to monitor the operation to ensure the filters are clear.
The Dolphin Triton Plus comes with a basic remote control, which gives you extra control when you want to select a particular cycle or you want to guide the steering towards a spot that perhaps needs some additional scrubbing.
Features You’ll Love
Quick water release – As you pull the unit out of the pool after its cleaning cycle, the quick water release gets activated and empties out all water from the unit within six seconds so you are not hauling anything more than 22 lbs, which is the dry weight of the cleaner.
Weekly timer cycle – If you are going to be away from home for a few days and would love to use the pool as soon as you get back, you’ll love this feature. Before leaving you can put the Triton Plus into the pool and set it to clean every 24 hours, 48 hours or 72 hours for up to three consecutive cycles. When the scheduled time arrives, the unit will turn on automatically, clean the pool and shut off on its own, even while you are away. When you get back home, you are all ready to dive in.
Two cleaning cycles and a remote control – Both of these features really ramp up the convenience factor. With many other cleaners you are stuck between waiting for 3 hours to use the pool or just not cleaning it at all. The quick clean feature makes a huge difference. The remote control ramps up the functionality and efficiency of the Triton Plus. You can use the touch-navigation to guide the cleaner to a spot that requires additional cleaning or to help it when it gets stuck over a drain cover without even getting off your lounge chair.
Split brushes and dual drive motor – Both of these features help to improve the cleaner’s maneuverability as well as its scrubbing power. The split brushes do a more powerful job of loosening debris for better suction and filtration and the dual drive motor allows the unit to turn a full 90 degrees for better coverage.
Engineered to climb walls easily – The water flow is engineered to allow the unit to hold fast to the walls so it can climb up to the water line without losing traction and slipping back down.
Top load cartridge filter system – A top loaded cartridge filter system is easier to remove and clean. A full-cartridge indicator ensures that you do not waste any time at all cleaning the cartridge when it is not full.
• Scrubs, vacuums and filters all pool up to 50 ft length in 1 or 2.5 Hours
• Quick release system allows water to drain out of the cleaner in less than six seconds
• Dual drive and split brushers
• Patented swivel system prevents the hose from getting tangled up
• Top access, easy to clean cartridge filter system and full cartridge indicator
• Remote control that offers touch-guided navigation and the ability to choose between quick-clean mode and the standard 2 ½ hour mode.
• Includes caddy for portability and storage
• Modular technology means getting spare parts is easier and cheaper too
• Although it has an extra large filter capacity, the surface area of the filter is not large enough so it tends to get clogged when it picks up large-sized debris from the pool
• At a little over $1000, it is more expensive than most other cleaners
What Other Users Are Saying
Despite its higher price point, most people who have bought the Triton Plus feel that the investment was worth it for the additional convenience and superior cleaning. Some of the features that users have praised include the dual cartridge system, full-cartridge indicator, two cycle options and weekly timer cycle.
While most users claim that their device climbed and cleaned the walls and stairs easily, a couple of users have complained that the unit does not climb their vinyl-lined pool walls as easily as it claims to. Another user pointed out that theirs keeps getting stuck on the main drain cover. These complaints seem to be in the minority however.
Is The Dolphin Triton Plus For You?
This is a great option for anyone who is willing to pay a little bit more than the average cost of a pool cleaner. You get loads of extra features, including a remote control and weekly scheduling that make the Triton Plus great value for money. The caddy is included with the purchase so that is one less extra you will need to purchase. Moreover, replacement parts are inexpensive thanks to its modular design.
Lastly, the feedback from other users is very positive with only a couple of complaints. It’s definitely worth checking out.
